Race Information

Come out and join us on Sunday, August 19, 2012 for the 24th Annual Leesburg 10K and 9th Annual 20K presented by Harris Teeter.  Run through scenic, historic Leesburg – you may even come across a cow or two!  Enjoy a rare opportunity to run a longer race during August – 7:30 start time helps to beat the heat!

See where your summer training has brought your 10K time.  Or, test your fitness and stamina in the 20K – it’s a great opportunity to race or simply use as a training run as you prepare for a fall marathon.  Both races will start and finish at the same place and same starting time (7:30 AM). Check back soon for new race course information.

The race includes technical shirts to all participants with no upgrade fee, a great post-race brunch, (thanks to our Title Sponsor, Harris Teeter), music, generous awards, a FREE Kids Fun Run, and numerous random prizes.

The race is presented by Harris Teeter and organized by PR Events, Inc., to support the important local youth programs organized by the YMCA Loudoun County.

Location and Time

Both races will take place on Sunday, August 19, 2011 at historic Market Station at 203 Harrison Street SE in downtown Leesburg, Virginia. On-site packet pick-up and registration will open at 6:15 am and the 10K and 20K races will begin promptly at 7:30 am.

Free Kids Fun Run

A free kids' fun run of about one-quarter mile will be held immediately after the start of the 10K and 20K races. No registration is necessary. Just show up and run. Kids will cross the official finish line, and medals will be awarded to all finishers.

Volunteers

Volunteers are needed to help with various tasks on race day. If you are injured and cannot run, or are accompanying a runner to the race, or you just want to give something back to the sport and contribute to the success of the event, please contact Cathy Pugsley at cathy@potomacriverrunning.com.

Directions and Parking

The race is staged in downtown Leesburg on Harrison Street in front of Market Station (in front of Tuscarora Restaurant, 203 Harrison Street, SE 20175). Approach Leesburg via Rt 7, the Dulles Greenway, or even historic White’s Ferry which brings you across the Potomac from Maryland.

For more specific directions click HERE.

There is plenty of parking available on surrounding streets and in a municipal garage just one block from the start/finish lines. Please do not park in church parking lots!  Garages can take time when they are in heavy use, however, so be sure to allow enough time to park and get to the start!

Awards

We are excited to announce this year's prize purse: $150-100-50 for the top three males/females in each race. In addition, both events offer age group awards in five-year age groups from 19 and under through 75 and over. The 10K also includes a 14 and under category in recognition of the many young people who run the race.  Many random prizes from local restaurant and retail establishments will also be awarded at two awards ceremonies! You must be present to win the random prizes. The race has a history of providing great random awards.

10K and 20K Courses

For 2012, we have again secured permission to use Dry Mill Road and keep the race going despite the power line construction on the W&OD.  The courses are a scenic, challenging, and rewarding tour of Leesburg, including a stretch of Dry Mill Road, and for the 20K, a portion of the Washington & Old Dominion Trail. Baby Joggers and strollers are not permitted on the course.   Click HERE to view the 10k course and HERE to view the 20k course map.

The courses start and finish together in downtown Leesburg on Harrison Street in front of Market Station. Check back soon for more race course details.

Water will be available on the course, and Gu has generously provided gels for the 20K runners.

Banners above the finish line will designate the appropriate side for 10K and 20K runners to finish. As you approach the finish, look for the banner indicating the distance you ran, listen for race officials' instructions, and finish on the appropriate side.

ChronoTrack

Both races will be scored with the ChronoTrack race timing system. All participants are required to remove the D-tag from their bib and attach the D-tag to their shoe. The ChronoTrack system calculates your individual time from the time you cross the starting line (rather than when the clock starts running) to the time you cross the finish line, resulting in a net or "tag" time for participants. Overall awards will be based on "clock" time and age group awards will be based on "tag" or net time. The registration fee includes the rental cost of the ChronoTrack D-tag.
For optimal performance, the D-tag must be attached to the shoe in the proper manner. For instructions on properly using the D-tag, please click here.
